Coons Home

When I moved to this community [Burlington, Kansas] in 2000 as the superintendent of schools, Mr. Freeman worked with me in the construction of a house [212 Heather St.]. Stephen had a busy schedule and I wished to complete most of the interior work myself so he agreed to subcontract the basement after which time he and his assistant framed and closed in the house.

I found that Stephen worked quickly and efficiently and whatever he promised was delivered in a timely manner. Unlike many contractors who may start a job and then disappear for days or weeks, Stephen started and completed the project very quickly. To my recollection, he never "discovered" extra items that needed to be completed for additional charges. What he submitted as a price on the contract was what he was paid.

I enjoyed the project and subsequently chose to build in two more locations [211 Jason St. and 403 Gary St.]. Freeman Contracting has provided the general contracting for the basement and Stephen and his crew have closed in both of the other homes for me. In each and every case I've been well pleased. If you are looking to build in Burlington or the Coffey County area, I recommend you give Freeman Contracting your consideration. Stephen is hard working, honest and will get the job done in a professional manner.

We looked at hundreds of plans and liked little things about each one. After months of dicussion we finally found a plan we wanted to use, well somewhat use. Because there were some minor changes we wanted to make, we decided to go to the contractors and see what they could do to help us make those minor changes.

When it came to builders, we had narrowed it down to two. Stephen Freeman was one of those builders. We met with Stephen Freeman first and showed him our plans. Stephen suggested several ideas but let us know it was our house and our choice. Once we finalized the plans, the bid was completed and we waited for the other contractor to complete the same process. A few weeks had passed and we had to pressure the other contractor to complete his bid.

With both bids in hand, we admit, Stephen's bid was easier to read and follow. Everything was in writing and nothing was left to question. We could not say the same for the second builder. The second bid costs were broken down a little more but there were many things not in writing and we were unsure what was included.

We decided that since Stephen was easy to get along with, had built many homes we had been in--homes that were completed in less time than the other builder, and he was more cost efficient, he would be the builder building our home--for the second time. Stephen had built our first custom home, as well. During the process it was nice to have someone with Stephen's experience.
